Future reunions and other events pertinent to our class.

If you were a Harlingen AFB Navigator Class 61-09 member, or suspect your were, please pass your contact information onto Bill Day, wlday@earthlink.net, or call me at (360) 933-1312. A lot of time, expense, and energy is expended searching for missing classmates.

2008 Harlingen Class 61-09 Reunion

 20 April - 25 April 2008
Port Canaveral, Florida
Orlando will be the assembly point for a four-day cruise departing from Port Canaveral, Florida.   Since most of the class will be flying into Orlando, Lynn and Kent Altman have generously offered to host the class to an outdoor BBQ the evening of arrival at their home in Orlando.  Kent is also making special arrangements for airport parking, hotel, and bus transportation to and from Orlando.  The kickoff beings with a BBQ at the Altman home in Orlando the evening before our departure.  The next day prior to departure will include a tour of the NASA facility at Cape Canaveral.
The majority attending the reunion in Reno asked for a cruise and boys you are getting a cruise - a First Class Cruise.  The vessel will be the Sovereign of the Seas (a Royal Caribbean International Ship, (RCL). The ship will depart Port Canaveral at 5:00pm on Monday April 21, 2008 and will return at 7:00am on Friday, April 25, 2008. The ship will visit Coco Cay, which is a private island for beach type activities, and then spend a day and a half in Nassau, Bahamas. The remainder of time will be spent at sea.
This vessel was commissioned Dec. 1987 and at the time was the largest cruise ship in the world.  It grosses at 74,000 tons and carries 2,282 passengers.  The service speed of the Sovereign of the Seas is 16 knots.
The planning geeks are already putting together varied activities, such as shooting sun lines with the same type handheld sextant you trained with at Harlingen.  We are going to work up some ETA contests, perhaps with handicaps for you guys who served all your time as EWOs, WSOs, of some other kind of O's.  Your classmates will assure you of a full menu of activity.
Now for Kent's specifics.

Itinerary subject to change without notice. Please confirm itinerary at time of booking.
One thing to remember when comparing prices is that the fare consists of three elements: The cruise fare itself, government Port taxes and government fees for security and customs. On the Bahamas cruise, for each category, the port charges are $99.00 and the Government fees are $15.30 for a total of $114.30. The cruise fares run from $240 for the cheapest inside cabin to $1134.30 for the grand suite.  I suggest you contact Kent or Bill Day for an update on available cabins.  The dates for our reserved cabins have passed, but as a travel industry employee I know there will always be a spare bunk in steerage for all classmates.  Our contact at Altour Classic Cruise and Travel Is Judy Jacobson. Judy is a very efficient and pleasant person. We are working with group sales at RCL.
Fees are per person.  Each cabin has accommodations for two.  Fees also include all meals aboard the ship.
It behooves those who are traveling alone on this cruise to room with another. All cabins have two beds. If you desire a roommate, let Bill Day know ASAP and/or put a message on the website. We will try to get you booked in with another classmate.
Whom do you call to make a reservation?

Other kinda important details.
Lynn and Kent Altman will host a BBQ at our house in Orlando the day prior to the cruise. The master plan is for everyone who can to gather in Orlando the day before the cruise. Kent is researching hotels in the airport area and there are a number of them. Prices run from about $55.00 on up.  There are many rooms available near the airport.  Do not reserve anything yet however as we are going to work with some of the hotel owners to try to get a deal. We also have the inside track on buses to the port and will handle that area. At present, we are considering a trip to the Kennedy Space Center on the morning of the cruise.  We could leave Orlando by bus at 9:00am being at KSC by 10:00am, spend several hours there, and still be able to board the ship by 2:00pm. If you have not visited the center, it is well worth the trip.
I have set up an email account to receive any information concerning the cruise.
